What Is the MOQ for Custom Leather Bags, Wallets and Gloves?
MOQ is one of the first questions buyers ask when developing custom leather goods. In this guide, we explain what MOQ means, why it varies by product, and what buyers should know before starting a custom leather bag, wallet or glove order.
When developing custom leather goods, one of the first questions buyers usually ask is:
“What is your MOQ?”
MOQ means Minimum Order Quantity. It is the minimum quantity a manufacturer can reasonably produce for one style, color, or material combination.
For leather goods, MOQ is not simply an arbitrary number. It is affected by leather purchasing, hardware, logo application, production setup, packaging and overall production efficiency.
Why Do Leather Manufacturers Have an MOQ?
Leather goods production involves many separate processes, including material sourcing, cutting, stitching, edge finishing, hardware installation, logo application, inspection and packing.
For very small quantities, the setup cost for these processes can become too high.
Leather itself is also usually purchased by full hide or in production lots. Custom hardware, lining, packaging and logo molds may also require minimum quantities from upstream suppliers.
This is why custom production normally has a higher MOQ than buying ready-made stock items.
MOQ for Custom Leather Bags
For custom genuine leather handbags, shoulder bags, crossbody bags and business bags, our normal MOQ is:
50 pieces per color per style.
This quantity allows us to manage leather purchasing, production setup and quality control more efficiently.
If a buyer wants several colors of the same style, MOQ is normally calculated by color.
For example:
1 style × 2 colors × 50 pcs = 100 pcs total.
Final MOQ may still depend on the leather, hardware and construction of the design.
MOQ for Custom Leather Wallets
MOQ for leather wallets depends more on the design and materials.
A simple bifold wallet using standard leather and hardware may be easier to arrange, while a more complicated wallet with special lining, custom zipper, metal logo or special packaging may require a higher quantity.
For wallet projects, we normally review:
style, leather type, color quantity, logo method, hardware and packaging
before confirming the final MOQ.
MOQ for Custom Leather Gloves
For genuine leather gloves, our normal MOQ is:
100 pairs per color per style.
Glove production is more size-sensitive than bags or wallets, because one order normally includes several sizes.
For European and North American markets, common size runs may include:
S / M / L / XL
or numeric sizing depending on the customer’s market.
The final MOQ can also depend on leather type, lining, color and glove construction.
Can You Make Samples Before Mass Production?
Yes.
For custom leather goods, we normally recommend making a sample first before starting bulk production.
The sample stage allows the buyer to check:
leather quality
color
size
construction
stitching
hardware
logo position
overall appearance
For new custom developments, more than one sample round may sometimes be necessary before final approval.
Can the MOQ Be Lower?
Sometimes, but it depends on the project.
MOQ may be easier to reduce when the buyer uses:
available leather
standard colors
existing hardware
simple packaging
an existing factory design
MOQ is usually harder to reduce when the project requires:
custom-dyed leather
special hardware
custom molds
complicated construction
multiple colors
special packaging
In many cases, reducing MOQ too much will increase the unit cost.
How Can Buyers Reduce Risk on a First Order?
For a new supplier relationship, the best approach is usually not to force the MOQ as low as possible.
A better process is:
sample first → confirm leather and color → approve construction → start a reasonable first production order
This helps both the buyer and manufacturer control quality and avoid unnecessary mistakes.
